How to Actually Rank For Any Keyword With a Legitimate Search Engine January 5, 2009
Posted by Pat in : my thoughts on stuff , comments closedEveryone wants to have their site rank well in Google.
And why not? Not only can Google send you a boatload of free traffic - it’s also highly targeted, and it’s one of the best ways to drive business.
The problem is, that exact same ideal is shared with thousands of your direct competitors. This creates an environment where you’ll always be fighting, kicking and scratching to maintain your traffic - along with the ever present fear that your livelihood is only one “algorithm update” away from vanishing.
And that’s if you can even get ranked for any decent keyword, to begin with…
In fact, only the largest, most-established authority sites can reliably see consistent traffic from Google. And even then, their rankings fluctuate constantly - several times a day, in some cases.
The fact is - it’s getting harder and harder for the “little guy” to get any kind of meaningful web presence on the web these days.
Getting ranked in Google is almost impossible unless you’ve got a major promotional budget and some time on your hands to “wait” for your domain to become trusted (Google favors older domains). And advertising with pay-per-click ads isn’t affordable like it once was.
Search engines marketing has finally become what everyone feared it would - a game reserved for big business.
But what if there was still a way to legtiimately rank for keywords with tons of traffic?
And what if you could do this without having to spend months and even years building up an authority site to do so?
In fact - what if you could systematically create one-page minisites that could rapidly rank in the top 3 spots (consistently) for basically any keyword you target within a matter of a week or so?
Is this for real?
YES.
But not with Google.
It’s happening right now, as we speak, on MSN.com
Now - before you think it - yes, I know, MSN doesn’t have nearly the reach that Google does. But, it still does receive millions and millions of search users daily. After all - MSN is the default home-page for anyone who first uses Internet Explorer.
And, to put it in perspective, which would drive more traffic?
Occupying the #1 ranking for your most desirable keyword target on MSN?
Or occupying the #47 spot on page 5 of Google’s results?
Sadly, it’s actually more effort to make it to the 47th spot in Google than it is to literally dominate in MSN.
How does this work?

Like I said - forget about Google.
Focus on something that you can actually WIN with, and win big!
Colon Cancer - Does Wheat Bran Reduce the Risk? January 5, 2009
Posted by Pat in : my thoughts on stuff , comments closedK-State, Wichita State collaborative research studies wheat bran from different wheat varieties, effect on suppressing colon cancer
MANHATTAN — We’ve heard the conflicting information: Wheat bran can reduce the risk of colon cancer in humans; wheat bran does not reduce the risk in humans.
But which one is true?
Both, sort of.
In the mid-1990s, grain science nutritionists at Kansas State University discovered that bran from one variety of wheat actually suppressed cancer in laboratory tests, while bran from another wheat variety did not.
According to Ronald Madl, director of bioprocessing and industrial value added programs with K- State’s department of grain science and industry, the confusion set in because the resulting medical literature really did not appreciate the genetic diversity in wheat — that not all wheat bran is the same.
“As a consequence, medical literature that followed the initial work sometimes said that wheat bran did suppress cancer,” Madl said. “Other medical literature said it did not suppress cancer.”
In a cooperative effort that picked up where that previous research left off, Madl and other researchers from K-State — including Carol Klopfenstein, professor emeritus of grain science and industry, Delores Takemoto, professor of biochemistry, and Weiqun Wang, assistant professor of human nutrition — joined with John Carter, associate professor of physical therapy at Wichita State, and discovered the diversity of phytochemicals in wheat bran. They tested about 120 varieties, all with different levels of antioxidants, from very high to very low. Further studies showed wheat bran with a higher antioxidant content demonstrated a potential to suppress cancer cells.
Madl said in subsequent testing on human cancer cells, the bran from high antioxidant wheat varieties either actually killed some of the cancer cells or stopped their growth; the medium and low antioxidant varieties had less of or no effect — the cancer cells kept growing like normal.
Further testing has shown that wheat high in antioxidants demonstrated a significant suppression in both size and number of tumors, while intermediate levels of wheat antioxidants experienced an intermediate level of cancer activity.
“Since then, we have been trying to move this research to the next stage, understanding which particular compounds are responsible for this benefit,” Madl said. “Antioxidant activity is expressed by a lot of chemical compounds, but that doesn’t mean that all antioxidants express that same beneficial, biological effect. Now, we’re trying to determine which antioxidants are actually responsible for cancer suppression.”
Madl said K-State wheat breeders would like to enhance the levels of antioxidants in wheat.
“The long-term opportunity is that we could produce new wheat varieties with higher levels of antioxidants, and then carry out research to show that these varieties can reduce cancer risk,” he said.
Madl said that once researchers have determined the wheat bran varieties with enhanced levels of antioxidants, clinical studies could be considered for humans to demonstrate if wheat bran could reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Madl said K-State research is currently focused on testing methodology. Development of more rapid screening methods for antioxidants in wheat could make the screening process for wheat breeders, as well as making the wheat selection process for food processors, quicker and more feasible.

Internet Marketers vs. Web Designers January 5, 2009
Posted by Pat in : my thoughts on stuff , comments closedThis concept is confused by those who are new to internet marketing. I am going to try to make this a very simple explanation, yet please make sure that you contact me if you have any questions. This is very important and you should fully understand the difference between an internet marketer and a web designer before you choose to ask for internet marketing help.
Definition of Web Designers:
Web designers are those who are paid to design web sites for individuals or businesses. These people are usually pros with html code, php, and all of the other types of programming that is commonly found on web sites. They focus very deeply on the color schematics and graphics of a web page in order to produce the flashiest end result. Sometimes they even create sites in FLASH, which is a type of design that you may have seen on sites in the past with a lot of motion and movement on the page. Sometimes, the pages even have a short introduction scene. These designers can be very talented, and sometimes they charge very healthy prices for their services. I have seen some quotes as low as $5,000 and up to $15,000 for some business websites.
Even though the sites that typical web designers produce may be very aesthetically pleasing, you must ask yourself a very important question before pulling out your wallet. Do you want a nice looking site only, or do you wish to have a site that is designed to get you brand new customers. The two desires could change whether or not you go with a web designer or an internet marketer for your project.
Definition of Internet Marketing Help
Internet marketers do exactly what their name states, they market on the internet. The actual website in itself to them is not as important as the actual marketing of the website. This is not to say that the websites that an internet marketer produces are not aesthetically pleasing, because they certainly are attractive looking sites.
The difference is that internet marketers usually use a different web site design and mechanism in order to receive the most favoritism from Google. What good is your website, if you are not being sent new customers from the most popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN? Search engine marketing is crucial for internet marketers to acquire the success that they desire. However, do not think that search engine marketing is the only tool that internet marketers utilize. There are many other off-page optimization techniques that can be utilized to market one’s website, and this is a tactic that 99% of web designers do not wish to utilize with their customers.
John’s Philosophy for the Internet Marketing Helpline
My main goal of this article was not to diminish web designers or the skills that they possess. However, I did want you to realize that sometimes more than just web design is needed for you to have success with your new website. It can sit idle without many visitors per day, or you can choose the Internet Marketing Helpline to turbocharge your web marketing so that your new site actually reaches your prospective client base.
Do’s and Don’ts in a Stay At Home Moms Business Web Conference January 4, 2009
Posted by Pat in : my thoughts on stuff , comments closedWeb conferencing is very advantageous. But beware, just like attending meetings and presentations in a round table or in a conference room, there are certain things you need to do, particular etiquettes you need to practice and habits you have to avoid.
Do’s
Plan Ahead
Like all things with a stay at home moms business prepare you presentation beforehand. Send the necessary materials through email or put them live online so that the attendees will be able to read them before the scheduled meeting and presentation.
Be Punctual
In normal meetings of stay at home moms being on time is very important. Web conference is no different. Common sense will tell you that since you don’t have to travel to go to the location of the meeting, there is no excuse for being late. It is also impolite to let others wait especially if you are the one who will give the presentation. Besides, all you have to do is to find an available internet connection to be at the meeting.
Find a Good Location
Normal Internet based affiliate marketing meetings are held in places where there is privacy and little or no distractions. This should also be the case for attendees of a web conference; more so if it is video and audio conference. Go to an office or a room where there are no movements (for video conference) and no noise (for audio conference) on the background. Movements and noise are very destructive; avoid them all the time.
Be respectful
The manner of speaking and gestures are always subject for interpretation in any meeting. In a Internet marketing web conference where you are not actually inside on room, speaking and gestures may be subjected to misinterpretations; so be careful. Take note: a Internet marketing web conference is just regular meeting held online. All rules and etiquettes of ordinary meetings still apply.
Don’ts
Avoid too much movement
You are on TV (sort of) and too much movement is very distracting for others. Moreover, other attendees might be using a low bandwidth connection so try to hold still.
Avoid doing other things whenever you are in a web conference like eating, drinking and using your cellphone. Avoid typing, scanning papers, looking for things inside the drawer and talking to other people. Again, all rules and etiquettes of ordinary meetings still apply in a web conference.
If you are transmitting good audio, background noise can be heard on other lines.
Avoid using wifi signal
Wifi is good if you are out and you need emergency internet signal. But during a web conference meeting, try to steer away from it. Wifi can be very unstable that can disrupt the meeting. Avoid wifi signals at the airport, restaurant, park and even in coffee shops.
Avoid putting attendees on hold
If you are in a meeting, make sure that your attention is completely there. Putting attendees on hold is rude. It interrupts the flow of the meeting and wastes the time of the participants. If in case you need to do something extremely important, excuse yourself instead of putting them on hold. Go back or reschedule the meeting if you are ready.
Keep in mind that there are other matters that are best discussed in person. If time and economics permit, try to hold meetings with other moms in person but if not, web conferencing is one of the best online marketing tools and one of the best tools to get your message across.
Website Design January 4, 2009
Posted by Pat in : my thoughts on stuff , comments closedA web site is a collection of information about a particular topic or subject. Designing a web site is defined as the arrangement and creation of web pages that in turn make up a web site. A web page consists of information for which the web site is developed. A web site might be compared to a book, where each page of the book is a web page.
There are many aspects (design concerns) in this process, and due to the rapid development of the Internet, new aspects may emerge. For non-commercial web sites, the goals may vary depending on the desired exposure and response. For typical commercial web sites, the basic aspects of web design are:
- The content: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with.
- The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.
- The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.
- The visibility: the site must also be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media.
A web site typically consists of text and images. The first page of a web site is known as the Home page or Index. Some web sites use what is commonly called a Splash Page. Splash pages might include a welcome message, language or region selection, or disclaimer. Each web page within a web site is an HTML file which has its own URL. After each web page is created, they are typically linked together using a navigation menu composed of hyperlinks. Faster browsing speeds have led to shorter attention spans and more demanding online visitors and this has resulted in less use of Splash Pages, particularly where commercial web sites are concerned.
Once a web site is completed, it must be published or uploaded in order to be viewable to the public over the internet. This may be done using an FTP client. Once published, the web master may use a variety of techniques to increase the traffic, or hits, that the web site receives. This may include submitting the web site to a search engine such as Google or Yahoo, exchanging links with other web sites, creating affiliations with similar web sites, etc.
Multidisciplinary requirements
Web site design crosses multiple disciplines of information systems, information technology and communication design. The web site is an information system whose components are sometimes classified as front-end and back-end. The observable content (e.g. page layout, user interface, graphics, text, audio) is known as the front-end. The back-end comprises the organization and efficiency of the source code, invisible scripted functions, and the server-side components that process the output from the front-end. Depending on the size of a Web development project, it may be carried out by a multi-skilled individual (sometimes called a web master), or a project manager may oversee collaborative design between group members with specialized skills.
